Celebrated Soho: Why Living Near Carnaby Street is so Ideal

January 4, 2018    |   Panny Antoniou

Carnaby Street is one of the most famous streets in London, located near Regent Street and Oxford Street it is the ideal shopping destination.

Having first being laid out in the late 1600s Carnaby Street took its name from Karnaby House, a building which was once located on the street. Carnaby Street gained its modern-day fame during the 1960s as the home of Mod and Hippie fashion. This 1960s influence is commemorated by plaques on the street, including a plaque for Mod fashion designer John Stephen at 1 Carnaby Street and another for Mod pop group The Small Faces and their manager Don Arden at 52/55 Carnaby Street. The street was pedestrianised in 1973 and is now home to many restaurants and flagship stores for leading fashion retailers.

Nearby shops include shoe shops Size? and Irregular Choice; as well as fashion brands Diesel, Scotch and Soda, and New Religion. In addition, nearby Kingly Court also features many fantastic restaurants, ranging from pizza at Franco Manca, BBQ at Dirty Bones, and delicious ramens at Shoryu. In addition, there are a number of bars in the area surrounding Carnaby Street including tropical bar chain Barrio on Poland Street, Cahoots in Kingly Court which is a 1940s Underground themed bar, and Carnaby Zebrano which is perfect for parties.

In addition, the area surrounding Carnaby Street boasts fantastic transport links, with easy access to both Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Circus Tube Stations. All these amenities nearby mean that the area surrounding Carnaby Street is the ideal place to live. The William Blake Building which is located at 1-6 Dufours Place, less than five minutes’ walk from Carnaby Street is a massively sought-after location. This is due to the fantastic view of London’s West End and South Bank which are offered from the private balconies and huge windows from this standalone high-rise building.

Here at Robert Irving Burns, we are delighted to have been marketing a beautiful studio apartment located on the 6th floor of this building. If you wish to discuss selling your residential property in Soho, do not hesitate to contact a member of our sales team or visit us in our West End offices.
