I have always been an entrepreneur, and at the risk of sounding older than I want to, I have experienced so many cycles over the last 30 years that not much phases me anymore.

I have always been involved in real estate, but have also owned restaurants, a regulated insurance brokerage, a wealth management firm, construction and development companies and others.

Throughout that period, I have witnessed double digit interest rates, restricted lending, revaluations, inflation and recessions: Real ones that felt hard on the ground.

And in the intervening periods I have heard people say we are now in a new settled era, where highs and lows don’t exist.

Nonsense.

It has always been cyclical and always will be.

Having the experience to navigate through turbulent or uncertain times is where experience shines through.

Whilst I would never have wanted what appears to be coming, I am not unsettled by it, I get it is part of the natural order of business and political life.

I do feel bad for some of the young ‘go getters’ who have yet to live through what’s to come.

However, for my part I am looking forward to applying the knowledge that I have learnt through pain, perseverance and determination to move forward and continue to INVEST.
